Control Your Fate

Someone told me once that in order to know the future, you have to create it. Our own act of creation is how the unknown becomes the known. I have also heard that people are uncomfortable with the idea that one person can change the future. We’d rather believe that outside forces are at play. We are more content with the idea that large structures exist to create the future.

That we are not comfortable creating the future seems a bit defeatist to me. An abdication of our autonomy. Perhaps an over reliance on the idea that because we have very little control, we should exert none. Leave it all up to fate.

The idea of fate is comforting, surely, to offset that lack of control we feel. But if we have any amount of influence, we should use it. If we have any control, we should take it. Do not go gently, and all that.
